concept proof mod for more historicaly accurate demographic curve
For 1.5 beta
This mod is a very simple mod changing demographic curve.
In recent 1.5.2 beta, paradox made changes on this curve that, in my opinion, does not go in the right direction :
- Gameplay feels population starved the first half of the game
- Overpopulation with exponential growth after 1900
- countries starting with negative pop growth
- AI is weaker than ever.
This is not likely final curve and improvements with other parameters like litteracy, urbanisation, pollution...
so this mod's primary objective is to compare 1.5.2 vanilla's gameplay with something closer to historically accurate demographic transition and give feedback (on pdx discord/forums) on wich one feels the best in terms of gameplay.
Changes
- Revised demographic growth curve
- Litteracy affects negatively birthrate
- Nerf to private healthcare institution so immortal capis does not exist anymore
- Increased chances for mass migrations
Effects and comparaisons with vanilla 1.5.2
All tests were done using the state of Wallonia in Belgium, to have a case-study of industrializing country right at start.
- Vanilla :
Theorical curve
The inflexion point here is at SoL 11 since most of the laborers pops are likely to not go further until mid-game (1880's)
This curve is far from perfectly realistic, but that's the best I could achieve with current defines. Hopefully there will be more tools to produce better curves in the futures.
Gameplay changes
- No early game "pop starving"
- Pre-industrial polities does not start with negative pop growth
- Industrializing countries gets early pop growth enough to sustain their economic growth
- New World's countries gets regular mass migrations with relevant numbers of immigrants
- No late game overpopulation but steady modest increase, and chances to get more pops with immigration
Please note this mod is only for beta testing purpose and will be removed after 1.5 official release.
Depending on paradox's futures improvements in the beta, those setting might be used in a future mod of the Ultra Historical Series sheduled for 1.5 official release in november.
