DESCRIPTION
Mod aimed at improving hungarians and the Carpathian basin, with a mix of historical considerations and arbitrary changes.
Compatibility:
Achievements: not compatible.
Other mods: The mod changes many files, including physical map, landed titles, culture files, events, religion files, english localizations. Unless it's a small/focused mod, assume it's not compatible. One way to make sure is comparing included files, if there's overlap between mods, they won't work together.
Installation issues:
If the game crashes when launching with the mod enabled, instead of subscribing try installing it manually:
- unsubscribe and uninstall the mod so it won't cause conflicts
- press the download link, save the archive somewhere
- unpack the contents of the archive to a new folder in mods directory (on Windows something like "C:Users<your username>DocumentsParadox InteractiveCrusader Kings IIImodgulyas")
- copy the 'descriptor.mod' file to the mods directory, open the file and add 1 line to the end: path="mod/gulyas"
- save the file, you should now be able to see the mod in the modlist
- enable it for the playset you want it applied to, launch the game with the playset
Alternatively you can subscribe to it on steam workshop (id: 2950569561, or search 'Gulyás'), I tested it there and it works flawlessly.
Version history:
v0.2.1:
- added missing terrain objects generated by map editor, this should fix misplaced trees and rushes
- moved d_visegrad duchy building slot to capital county
- changed magyar and hungarian traditions
- increased cultural acceptance between poles and hungarians
v0.2:
- frogleap for game version compatibility (1.4.4 -> 1.8.1): fixed all crashes caused when using mod with latest game version, merged the campaign map
- cleaned up files to remove unnecessary clutter, expect a smaller storage footprint
- introduced a mythical hungarian beast to the game
v0.1:
- changes to the topography of Carpathian basin (wetlands around Duna and Tisza rivers, more farmlands, moved some hills/forests around)
- moved Hungarian capital from Visegrád to Székesfehérvár
- switched de jure Croatia from Byzantine to Carpathian empire (Croatia was in a personal union with Hungary for most of the game's timeline)
- renamed early hungarian culture to 'magyar' (it's more consistent with how other early cultures ie. anglo-saxons have modern spelling + I feel like archaic spelling is more immersion breaking)
- anachronistic early hungarian names replaced with appropriate pagan names
- anachronistic early hungarian dynasty names replaced with known hungarian (and allied) tribe names
- changed dynasty location prefix to 'of' (the vanilla 'a' makes no sense, if the game ever implements a dynasty location suffix, will use 'i', untill then the the English alternative is less immersion breaking)
- changed the way hungarians settle in the Carpathian basin upon successful conquest: hungarians will settle randomly, preferring fertile lands (+50% chance for every barony) and open plains (+30%), with a smaller (+10%) modifier for woodlands and counties with avar culture
- moved holy sites: Pest->Esztergom, Kerch->Vereckei pass
- made it possible to raid with warmonger religious tenet
- changed color of hungarian culture, taltosist religion, Kingdom of Hungary and Empire of Carpathia (totally arbitrary)
Planned changes:
- consider more changes to topography
- consider implementing a gyepű/march system (ie. extreme attrition for invaders on border baronies, including internal borders)
- consider revising county borders + settlement names/positions
- consider adding more mines (gold in Selmecbanya/Bestztercebanya, salt in Torda)
- revise historic characters for early period
- revise christian hungarian names and dynasties
- consider adding more cultures (kabars, szekelys, jasz, transylvanian saxons), decisions/events to settle them in the kingdom
- improve raiding over land
- localization
Feel free to provide feedback and suggest improvements.
