DESCRIPTION

Do you hate mercenaries?

 

Join the club. My first game as Macedonia way back in 1.1 days, I decided to see how many mercenaries I could drop on the Island of Melite. At the end date I had almost dropped 4 million dudes on the island to keep them away from the AI and I hadn't yet managed to drop all the mercs from Egypt. Unreal. I actually went past the end date by 6 months just to get the screenshot. 4 million lads just chilling xD However, this mod doesn't remove mercenaries entirely. It seems unreasonable to do so. Mercenaries did exist in those days.

 

Changes for 1.4

 

So now I have a fairly good handle on what things are appropriate with respect to mercenaries. To that end mercenary numbers are nerfed so that they are much smaller stacks. It is simply not reasonable for a country to tolerate massive stacks of mercenaries sitting on their capitals just waiting for a country to hire them. Yes, there should be some but not the way vanilla handles them. As such --

 

1. One Mercenary army for each region.

2. Mercenary numbers are nerfed to about 60% of vanilla at the start. As time passes in game, the relative size of mercenary stacks to what they would be in vanilla tends to decrease.

3. Mercenary general trait is nerfed. Mercenary generals shouldn't be better than almost every general in the game.

Thanks to Agamidae the guy who made the UI mod. Took his advice to rename the file and remove untouched items from the file. This mod should not be compatible with everything that doesn't touch mercenaries.

Load last, this touches so little that it is probably best to load in last in the mod order.
